J&J Design has recently released the book Forty Years of J&J Design Studio published by leading Croatian boating publishing house Morski Vodiči. The article was kindly written by Ed Slack of IBI media and is available for download in PDF form.

Aquila 42C and 46C Powercat coupe to debut at the 2025 Miami Boat Show
The 2024 Miami boat show has been chosen as the venue to unveil the new Aquila 42C and 46C coupe versions. J&J started to work for Aquila at the foundation of the company in 2011, and is honoured to assist the development from greenfield to the status of the largest power catamaran builder worldwide.
As a continuation of the15 year-long cooperation with the Aquila brand, J&J design has worked on the concept, naval, design and engineering aspects for the 42C coupe version. The twin-stepped hulls, combined with the Aquila AHG foiling system, make these newcomers a force to be reckoned with.
Driving forces in the boat building sector
What are the key issues that will define the direction of boat building in the near future? That was the subject of a METSTRADE Theatre panel featuring co-founder of J&J Design and 2024 Boat Builder Awards Designer of the Year, Japec Jakopin, Garmin’s EMEA Marine Segment Director Pontus Fernstrom and IBI Editor Ed Slack. Japec and Jernej Jakopin/ Studio J&J Design Awarded in Amsterdam. During the METS fair in Amsterdam the Boat Builder Awards 2024 (organised by METSTRADE/RAI, ICOMIA and IBI) were named. The Designers of the Year award was assigned to Japec and Jernej Jakopin and Studio J&J Design.

A Monograph of J&J Studio Published
We are proud to announce the publication of the monograph entitled Forty Years of J&J Design Studio. The book covers the (first) four decades of the work of our office.
In December 2023 the work was published by Pomorski vodici, the leading boating publishing house in Croatia. It contains 320 pages, 65 drawings, 146 colour photographs, ten illustrations, six tables/diagrams and 43 hand painted portraits of the boating legends our studio worked with during the past 40 years. The material is divided in three main parts : The History, The 40 selected boat projects, and The Work.

The 2024 Motorboat awards were revealed on January 23rd 2024. In the Flybridges up to 60 feet category the winner was Fairline Squadron 58.
J&J Design contributed naval architecture, structural engineering and conceptual elements.

– a plant having foliage that remains green and functional through more than one growing season
– something that retains its freshness, interest, or popularity

XO wins a Boat Of The Year Award in England
Our loyal client from Finland, the famous aluminium boats builder XO, won the prestigious Motorboat Award 2023 for the XO DFNDR 9. The award is hosted by the British Motor Boat & Yachting magazine and XO won the prize in the Adventure Boats category. J&J executed the naval architecture and engineering of the 9 m XO, and the exterior design was drawn in a shared effort between Jaakko Kantola and our office.
