Time to go sailing

One of the most recognizable lake sailing vessels in Europe was the Sunbeam 22. But after half a century, the Schoechl family felt it was time for a replacement model worthy of the legendary 22. Sunbeam 22.1 delivered.

J&J was given this challenging and responsible task, despite being relative greenhorn designers for the yard. The result was the Sunbeam 22.1, a model which renewed interest in sailing in the Main lake “district” (Austria, Germany and Switzerland). The 22.1 was comfortable in the cockpit; easy to sail, even singlehanded when necessary, with a lifting keel and rudder for shallow waters; easy to trail behind a car; and easy to both launch and retrieve, using a simple slipway.

The new model was chosen by many sailing schools as their base model and became the Austrian one design class with a sailing league set of races finishing with the championship every year.

More than 250 boats have been delivered to date, and production is still running well.
